No Culture when it Suits You!

Metropolitan Müzesi ve Sanat Tarihçilerinin

İkiyüzlülüğü,

Önyargısı,

Politik görüşü,

Propaganda, gerçekler değil ve

Bilinçaltına etkisi!

Not Asia Minor and definitely not Smyrna
it is Türkiye and İzmir

Metropolitan Müzesi'ne;

*
To Metropolitan Museum;
Why don't you classify it as Turkish Culture or Art? Is it because we are a big family and have a rich culture? Or are you afraid to say our name? It doesn't matter whether the works come from Iran, Egypt, or Syria. The Seljuks are Turks. The Kipchaks/Cumans/Mamluks are Turks. So, they are all within the Turkish Culture and Art.

Meanwhile, the works that belongs to other cultures (e.g., India, China, etc.) are being written.
Stop this Hypocrisy, and write Turkish Culture and Art !

Prejudiced,

Political,

Propaganda, not facts, and

Subconsicious influence

of Metropolitan Museum and Art Historians!

Scythian Turks

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL VALUES OF THE SCYTHIANS:ANCIENT ASHGUZS / ISHKUZS / GUZS

Zaur HASANOV*

Chapter I is devoted to the research of Iranologists. Social and cultural versions of the myth of “the Scythian descent from Tagitaus” (described byHerodotus) have been studied by many Iranologists. Basing on the analyses of heir research it can be concluded that:

1) the names of the four Scythian tribes – Auchatae, Catiaroi, Traspi and Paralaltai (which represent social categories) cannot be reconstructed on the basis of Iranian linguistic and mythological tradition.

2) Iranologists (Miller, Tokhtasev) point out that plural suffix -t- (in the Scythian ethnic names Auchatae, Paralaltai, Scolotoi) originates from the languages of the Altaic language family.

3) Abaev assumes that in the ancient Iranian languages there is no phoneme -l- , which appears in the individual’s names “Lipoxais” and “Colaxais” and in the names of ethnic groups “Paralaltai” and “Scolotoi” from the myth of the Scythian descent from Tagitaus.

4) As far as the text of Protogenes inscriptions is concerned, it becomes clear that “aksai/oksai” in the names of the first Scythians (Lipoksai, Arpoksai, Kolaksai) is not a single word, as Iranologists try to present it, but two separate roots ok/ak and sai. Thus it can be concluded that these two words are not associated with the Iranian title hšaya-. For the reasons mentioned above, it may be concluded that the myth of the Scythian descent from Tagitaus (in which, according to many researchers, the social structure of the Archaic Scythian society is described) is not genealogically connected with the Iranian world.

5) According to V.Miller and V. Abaev traces of the Iranian languages were virtually not present in the names of the Royal Scythians at the time of Herodotus. They believe that Iranisation of the Scythians had started in the later (Sarmatian) period.

6) In order to prove Iranian origin of the Scythians and Sakians Iranologists use the “circular argument”, which means that “conclusions of the researcher depend on his/her original assumptions”. This “circular” approach has been criticized by the Indo-European researchers.

7) Written sources (Herodotus) evidence of the existence of seven different languages in the Scythian Empire. These facts do not allow us to accept the false concept of the Iranian mono-ethnic origin of the Scythian society. The issue of the origin of different languages of the Scythian Empire remains relevant in the current research.

Chapter II.

1) The correct Ancient Greek transcription of the Scythian(Σκυθαι) ethnic name is “Skuthai”. The identical Assyro-Babylonian (Ashguzai, Ishkuzai) and Ancient Greek (Skuthai) forms of the Scythian ethnic name suggest that this was the real name of this people.

2) The name of the Scythian tribes is identical with the name of the Turkic tribal union Oghuz, Guz.

3) The comparative research of the Herodotus’ information about the Royal Scythians and Rashid al-Din’s information about ancient Oghuzs shows parallel details, concerning their military campaigns, migrations and even historical period (7th century BC).

4) Archaeological sources of the Archaic Scythian period reveal that the information of Rashid al-Din about migrations of the ancient Oghuzsis correct.

5) The information about division of Oghuz tribes into İç Oğuz (Inner Oghuz) and Taş Oğuz / Aş Oğuz (Outer Oghuz) can be found in Assyro-Babylonian written sources, where Scythians are named Ishkuzai and Ashguzai. In general the Turkic sources allow us to reveal structure virtually identical with the social, military and geographical organization of the Scythian society.

Chapter III.

The souces prove that Scythians and Turko-Mongolian nations (Xiongnu, Hunns, Tuchue, Mongols, Oghuz, Kipchaks etc.) had analogical traditions of:

1) burial , 2) horse sacrifice, 3) blood oath, 4) cult of defeated enemy skull, 5) sword worship, 6) views about Earth and 7) anti-assimilation attitude.

Chapter IV.

Iranologists cannot explaine etymological meanings of all of the eight gods of the Royal Scythians Pantheon.

1) The research on the basis of the ancient Turkic languages, and its comparison to the Shamanism and Tengrianism of the Altaic language family, allows us to establish clear etymological meanings of all eight Royal Scythian gods and to reveal a clear structure of the Pantheon.

2) Study of the names of the Royal Scythian gods on the basis of the ancient Turkic languages allows us to reveal their polisemous etymological meanings. Multifunctional images of the Scythian gods are identical with multifunctionalimages of the Greek gods (that were identified with the Scythian gods by Herodotus).

3) In this chapter some additional evidence is brought to support the argument about sameness of the Royal Scythian and Turkic gods.

Chapter V.

The images of goddesses in the Scythian art are analysed and compared to the information in written sources and traditions of Shamanism in the Altaic language family. It allows us to establish that:

1) Scythian depictions of a female deity with big feet, a fire and a mirror refer to the Scythian goddess Tabiti.

2) Scythian images of a female creature with zoomorphic limbs, wings, surrounded by animals, holding a severed male’s head in her hand, are depicting Scythian goddess Argimpasa.

3) The Cimmerain, Scythian and Sakian archaeology discoveries, its comparison to the written sources, ethnographic materials, and Shamanism of the people of Altaic language family, allows us to determine the semantic meanings of series of the archaeological finds and funeral ritual, which is reflected in the construction materials and stratigraphy of the burial mounds.

4) The research of the cross-shaped (romb-shaped) Cimmerian, Scythian and Sakian ornament reveals that its semantic meaning originates from the concept of the Centre of Universe in the Uralo-Altaic shamanism. In general it should be stated that the comparative research leads to the conclusion that Cimmerian, Scythian and Sakian shamanic practices were identical with to those of the Siberian shamans.

Chapter VI.

Describing the myth of the “Scythian descent from Tagitaus” Herodotus cites the names of the first Scythians (Lipoxais, Arpoxais, Colaxais), their tribes (Auchatae, Catiaroi, Traspi, Paralaltai) and golden objects that had fallen from the sky (a plough, a yoke, a battle-axe, a drinking-cup).

1) Etymology on the basis of ancient Turkic languages helps to determine that the functions of the golden objects were reflected in the names of the first Scythians and their tribes.

2) The names of the first Scythians and their tribes reflected their social and economic functions, which were associated with the semantic value of the golden object that they received from the sky.

3) The names of the tribes reflected actions performed by the golden object: a battle-axe (sword) - to cut , a plough –to hoe, a yoke –to conquer, a drinking-cup (cauldron) – to hang over the fire.

4) The myth of the “Scythian descent from Tagitaus” reflected the social structure of the Scythian society in the Archaic Scythian period.

Scythians and Turks - Stone Statues

Tashbaba/Balbal from Scythian and Turkish Khaganate (Göktürk) Periods.

* Balbal (Tr.of ety.), represents the enemy, even if it is from an other Turkish tribe. They are simple and without an oath cup.

* Tashbaba (Tr.of ety. Taşbaba=Stonefather) with oath cup, represents the Leader/İl (El)başı/Kağan.

These are also one of the material proof, that the "Scythians" and "Turks" are kinsmen. Because the "Indo-Iranians" doesn't have this culture/tradition, neither does the Mongolians !

Turks - Altai

Filitosa V - Corsica/link
They think that these belongs to the people who came with "Sea People". In that case, these statues belongs to Pelasgians (Sea Saka/Sacae) or Cimmerians. We do know that among the Etruscans (NON-IE) there was also Cimmerians in Italy at that time, so there must be also Cimmerians among Sea People.
That's why the similarty Altai (Turks) - Corsica (Filitosa V)

From France / Aveyron /link

Cuman Turks - 12th-13th c (Ukraine?)

On one of the statue has a quiver and a metal belt buckle... So these are from the Cimmerian/Scythian period, and doesn't belong to Celts or Germanic people. We see also in Germany such statues, but that does not mean it belong to the Germanic people ! They didn't even had a name as Germanic at that time and it is not even Indo-European of etymology! Besides, some Cimmerian tribes are written as Germanic tribe in Tacitus (Gambrivi). The Basques (Euskal, Euskara) for example, are one of the NON-Indo-European people in France, who came from Caucasus İberia, which was interactive with the Cimmerians and Scythians. (Basque language is agglutinative language, so NON-IE. And there are many words shared with the Karachay-Balkar Turkish.)

You can also look at Anatole A. Klyosov works

Germany and Italy (below) / link

Even the word "menhir" is not etymologyical Indo-European, it is Turkish, It was written in Orhun inscriptions as "Mengü" (with m>b also as Bengü, meaning "eternal memorial stone") = Mengü > Menghur > Menhir.

It is important to follow it in time with the question "Who continued this culture/tradition?" !

Turkish Balbals/Tashbaba

Did the European tribes (such as Franks) continued this in AD times? No, they did not... But Turkish tribes did... Such as; Turkish Khaganate (Göktürks), Huns (mostly Ak-Hun, i.e. Hephthalites, which the word was derived from the other name of the White-Huns = Abdaly > Hapdalit > Hephthalites ), Avars and Kipchaks (Polovets)-Cumans, etc. And some, not many, other nations did borrowed this tradition/culture, but did not continued or they were mixed with the Cimmerian/Scythian people. Because it was a strange culture/tradition for others. Even at the end of the 19th- beginning 20th c AD in Turkiye, we have many Tashbaba or Balbal to be seen.

Altay (Altai) - Turkish kurgans and Tashbaba/Balbals

The political pressure back in time on Turkology in the USSR (mass arrests, imprisoning, killing the Turkology scientist, scholars, changing the names of the tribes/nations, and not using the word "Turk" - link), doesn't work anymore, and definitely not the pressure of the "Westernes" who took this "erasing" idea over form the USSR ! "Westernes" are not the authority to write "the history of the Turks"! Turkish scientist are the authority of their own history! Because many do not know wat "Artuk, Selçuk, Kıpçak or Memluk" is, if the Westerner writes "Artuq, Seljuk, Polovets or Mamluk" without the word "Turk" in his book or article. But we do know immediately, when a scholar write "Artuk, Selçuk, Kıpçak or Memluk", that they are one of the Turkish tribes, we do not need the word "Turk" extra next to the word "Kipchak" for example !... And please don't underestimate the history of the Turks, be open minded... maybe one of your ancestor comes from one of these Turkish tribe that I mentioned before...

Scythians - Turks

"In agreement with the results from the current study, eastern Scythian lineages were already shown to have a more widespread distribution among the contemporary populations and intriguingly almost exclusively among the Turkic-speaking populations, who are also spread over a substantial part of the Eurasian geography. It is also noteworthy that a relatively high level of matching was observed in both the maternal and paternal lineages of the two ancient Scythians from Ak-Alakha-1 site and contemporary populations from Anatolia.

This is despite the fact that the Ychromosomal haplogroup N and mtDNA haplogroup C are today observed at their highest frequencies in both contemporary and ancient east Eurasian populations. As in the case of the Pazyryk culture, there is ample evidence for genetic admixture of the eastern and western paternal and maternal lineages in the contemporary populations from Turkey along with an overall population continuity of the original Anatolian genetic stock...

 In other words, there is an apparent population continuity from the Scythians to the Xiongnu and then onto the Turkic people, possibly because the former two already bore proto-Turkic elements. Following the collapse of the Pazyryk culture, not all members of the community disappeared, but some seemingly formed the basis of a genetic continuity with the contemporary Altaians and other nearby populations in terms of both the paternal and maternal lineages...

Instead of simply disappearing upon the collapse of the Scythian culture, “the animal style” flourished over an even larger geographical domain, such as through the ethnic traditions of various Turkic peoples. Among the numerous examples are the re-appearance of the ever-popular Scythian symbolism attached with deer and deer antlers in the insignia of the KokTurk royal family, as well as ornamental motifs on numerous other artifacts from the associated period."

Matrilineal and Patrilineal Genetic Continuity of Two Iron Age Individuals from a Pazyryk Culture Burial
Dmitrii G. Tikhonov (1), Cemal Gurkan (2, 3), Gokce Y. A. Peler (4) and Victor M. Dyakonov (5)

In this study, geographic and linguistic distributions of contemporary and ancient matches with the paternal and maternal lineages of two individuals exhumed from the exemplary Pazyryk culture burial site of AkAlakha-1 mound 1 were investigated. Using the shared paternal and maternal haplotypes observed in both ancient individuals, extensive database and literature searches were conducted revealing numerous full matches among contemporary Eurasians, majority of whom speak Altaic Languages. Despite the current focus on the two Pazyryk individuals, a rare glimpse into the ancient migrations was gained through the discovery of paternal and maternal haplotype matches across an immense geography that spans from Yakutia to Turkey. In addition to a vast array of archaeological findings in such Scythian “frozen graves” across Central Asia, accumulating archaeogenetic data are expected to shed light on the anthropology of these otherwise mysterious people.

* What does this mean? ; "...the expansion of Turkic languages was thought to be much more recent—that is, sixth century CE onwards..." ?! (from the article)

But you are mistaken!...
Turkish language goes far back as the Sumerians, which also means that Turkish speaking groups were in Mesopotamia at that time! So it was not expanded whitin the 6th c AD, not recently thus, but four thousand years earlier. That's the mistake you all make; Thinking that Turks are just limited only with the Gokturks, is just absurd!

SB

Cynical but True, that's how the scholars response!:
"When a scholar met a Scythian at a bazaar, he greeted him “I've heard that Scythians are Iranians”.
The Scythian replies, “Menim dil Türkche” (I talk Türkic), to which the scholar responds,
“You see, my trusted colleague is right, you do speak Iranian!”."

Ethnic affiliation of the Scytho-Sarmatians
Proceedings of Russian DNA-genealogy Academy, Aug. 2012, Vol. 5, No 8, pp. 979-1012, ISSN 1942-7484 (in Russian)

First, Scythians are Turkish speaking Turkish tribe, which is today also the ancestor of all Turkish people, from east to west, plus the ancestors of Magyars, Huns (the East Huns-Xiongnu and the West Huns-Attila are kinsman), some European tribes as "Saken (or Saxon)", Picts, Osetians, Ukraine. etc. Scythians did not dissepear, they just mingled with others, and that's why the DNA comes up with many nations. But at the begining Scythians (Sacae) are Turks, and Turk is the surname of the ethnic, Scythians is just the name, like Oghuz, Seljuk, Artuqid or Kuman, Khazar, etc. Dr.Ida Bobula wrote in Origin of the Hungarian People; "All Turkish peoples, Uighurs, Kök-Turks, Ottoman Turks, belong to that central group of Eurasian humanity, which we are calling Scythian"...(link)

Second is the "Cultural & Social DNA", who are the descendants of the Scythians which continued the same cultural, art, social traditions? Like drinking mare's milk koumiss (kımız) or stonestatues Balbal or Tashbaba (Stonefather-Taşbaba), which we see also among Kökturks and Kuman-Kipchak Turks. Or riding horse and using the bow-arrow as "Partian-Shot", among Huns, White-Huns (Hephthalites-Abdals), Seljuks (an Oghuz tribe like Ottomans=Atman), Kipchaks and even in the Ottoman period! Not a single tribe of the so-called "Indo-European/Iranian" tribes has used the "Parthian-shot" or "mare's milk"! The continuity of the cultur and art to be seen among Turks, is important to consider...

Third one is the language, Issyk inscription is Turkish to be read. There was also an other little inscription which was read as Ak-Maral (White Deer). The names are Turkish to. There is a joke about it:

When a scholar met a Scythian at a bazaar, he greeted him “I've heard that Scythians are Iranians”. The Scythian replies, “Menim dil Türkche” (I talk Türkic), to which the scholar responds, “You see, my trusted colleague is right, you do speak Iranian!”.

Even the name of the Scythian King is Turkish of etymology; ATAİL

This means Scythians spoke Turkish, so they were Turks, all Turkish people, not just who lives in Turkiye, because Turkiye has many Turkish tribes which are Turks; like Avars, Huns, Khazars, Pechenegs (one of the Oghuz tribe), Oghuz groups (Seljuks of Kınık tribe, Ottoman of Kayı tribe, or look for more Oghuz (the meaning of Oğuz is Tribes) tribes with different names in "Oghuz Turks" on the net) , Cuman-Kipchaks, Bulgar-Turks, Nogay-Turks, etc. that's why we named the land after our surname: Turk. (and I do not accept the word Turkic! it means isshh = like, such as, similar)

And ask yourself to: "Why ise there Turkology (with the word Turk as in ethnic word)? To study the Turks of course... And why is there, instead of Frenchology, Britainology, İtalianology or Swedenology is there a Germanalogy or Celtology?..." The word German lives only in Almanya (Germany) and only they kept the ethnic name (if we can say so), but all others like Franks or Britains are of German/Celt/Scythian mixed people, but they don't have *-ology in academia as title with their ethnic name.

Most of the people and scholars starts the history of the Turks with the Köktürks/Gokturks, and according to you they don't have ancestors, is that possible? Of course not... Turks are not limited with the Gokturks (the real state name was actually "Turkish Khaganate"), these are just the Turks in Central Asia. There are many Turkish tribes with different names, some took their name from their leader -  Atman > Ottoman, or Selçuk > Seljuk, which are both from Oghuz Turks - , and some was given - like Scythians (actually their name is Sak /Kas, but in Assyrian inscriptions is their name Ashguzai/Ishguzai > As+Guz > As and Ghuzz>Oguz, which As is also a tribe name from the Orkhun inscription, just like the name Tatar (thus, Tatar was not given to Mongolians, because it was already in the 7th c Ad in use as Turkish Tribe).

So the problem of many people and scholars is that they limited the Turks only with the Gokturks, that's just absurd. They didn't fall from the Sky... Plus, Gokturks with the name Turk (in Chinese Tu-kue) is written on the Orkhun inscriptions, but not for the first time, the first time is Turuki/Turuci in 14th-13th c BC. Or the name Guz/Oguz, like in Assyrian inscripitons was written also by Herodotus and Strabo as Ochus or Oxus, is the river Amu Darya today, where the Oghuz Turks lived even in the 5th BC... Did the Russians, British or Slavs have the nation name in BC times? No, they did not... Subar/Suvar/Sibir or Subari/Subartu/Subarians (3300 BC.) are also proto-Turks, which gave name to Siberia. (There are Turkish toponyms or hydronyms in Europe to if you are interested...)

And who says that the Turks are Asian?.. No my friend, Turks are just like the Europeans of Caucasian race. But some of them mixed with the Asian race, who settled in Central Asia, and there is no shame of it. Are the Europeans pure blood/genes German or Celtic tribe? Also a no... I do respect all kind of culture and nation, but I do not accept the ignorence against the history of all the Turkish people. Be careful, maybe you are mocking about your own ancestor, which you don't know. Because, Europe was settled by Turks with the names; Scythians/Sacae, Huns, Avars (which is also called as Abar, like in "Abaris the Hyperborean"), Bulgars, Khazars, Kipchak-Cumans, Pechenegs, etc... So, everyone need to refresh theirs knowledge...

Plus about the Vikings, actually their history begins in the 8th c Ad after the Hun-Turks. After the death of Attila (Atilla) the Huns spread all over the Europe, and some of them came to Scandinavia and settled there. There is not just a DNA result but also the traditions; eating horse meat, burying with horses in kurgans, hanging horse head on trees, etc. are Hun (and Scythian-Kökturk) Turk traditions and not Scandinavian! Of course the asimilation was strong. But at the end the European people have Turkish ancestory in his genes and veins, not just by Scyhtian Turks, but also by Hun, Bulgar (before the Slavs), Avar, Cuman-Kipchak, Pecheneg, Seljuk and even Ottoman Turks. For example, we see more Avar-Turks among Slavs, and Hun-Turks among German tribes with the 4th-8th century AD. Magyars (this is the ethnic name of them, not Hun) are our cousins. Hungarians are the only non-Indo-European-speaking nation in Central Europe and are more realated with Bashkir Turks and Cuman-Turks.

Parlak ve Şans - Glans & Geluk

Seljuk Turks

Bijvoorbeeld:

- (hoofdfoto) "Moskeelamp met het lichtvers uit de Koran en titels van opdrachtgever, Syrië of Egypte, 1322-1328" ;

- "Tegel in de vorm van een ster, Oost-Iran, midden 15e eeuw" ;
Turkse Kunst, Ottoman / Safavid Turks.

- "Tegel met kalligrafie in reliëf (eretitels van opdrachtgever), Iran, 1200-1400";
Turkse Kunst, Seljuk Turks !

- "Schaal met arabeskpatroon, Turkije, Iznik, circa 1480";
Turkse Kunst, Ottoman Turks !

- "Schenkkan, Iran, circa 1200, kiezelaardewerk met lusterglazuur";
Turkse Kunst, Seljuk Turks !

- "Kom met kalligrafie en streepdecor, Iran, 1200-1250, kiezelaardewerk";
Turkse Kunst, Seljuk Turks !

Seljuk Turks

ENG

Titles such as "Islamic art" is not a correct, İslam contains different nationalities! I am personally against the title "Islamic", because this title separates all works that belong to Turkish Culture! Arabic writings also do not prove that the art belongs to "Arabs" or "Persians"! Most of the exhibition belongs to Turkish Art!

For example:

- (main photo) "Mosaic lamp with the light verse from the Koran and titles from the principal, Syria or Egypt, 1322-1328 ";
Turkish Art, belongs to Mamluk Turks!
Even if it comes from Syria or Egypt!

- "Tile in the shape of a star, East Iran, mid-15th century";
Turkish Art, Ottoman / Safavid Turks.
Even if it comes from Iran, it does not mean "it is Persian Art"!

- "Tile with calligraphy in relief (honorary titles of principal), Iran, 1200-1400 ";
Turkish Art, Seljuk Turks!

- "Arabesque pattern scale, Turkey, Iznik, circa 1480 ";
Turkish Art, Ottoman Turks!

- "Pottery with luster glaze, Iran, circa 1200 ";
Turkish Art, Seljuk Turks!

- "Pottery, with calligraphy and stripe decor, Iran, 1200-1250 ";
Turkish Art, Seljuk Turks!
